This work has splendit woodcut illustrations. Individual prints from this scarse work are rarely offered. Artists and Engravers: Bibl. Belgica ascribes the main-work to Roelant de Doppere and Antoine de Roovere. The author of the second part is still unknown. The publisher of the work: Willem Vorsterman (Flemish 1504-1540 or 1543) was one of the leading and most productive publishers / printers of his time. He published over 200 works in the period 1524-1540. This work is one of his most popular works. The woodcuts in this work were partly assembled from the publishers inventory and partly made for this work by unknown artists. Subject: Sheet from this chapter of this work which deals with the Foresters and Counts of present day Flanders. This sheet shows Aernout or Arnulf III, 'the unfortunate' (Ernoudt die simple), the ninth Count of Flanders (1070-1071). Next to him brother Boudewijn II. Arnulf III was killed by his uncle Robert de Fries in the battle near Cassel in 1071. Boudewijn II succeeded him shortly, but had to give up the County of Flanders to his cousin Robrecht or Robert I.Condition: Fine. General age related toning and light staining from handling.
