Antique Petrus Regout & Co Masstricht Royal Sphinx Hand Painted Spongeware Plate

Description: This listing is for an Antique Petrus Regout & Co Masstricht Royal Sphinx Hand Painted Spongeware deep Plate , measuring 8 1/2 inches in widest diameter , 1 1/19 inches tall and 350 grams net weight. Marked as shown at base. In excellent antique displayable as shown condition with a small chip and a hairline moving inward about 1 1/4 inches , neither of which are visible on front, and crazing harmonious to its age more visible on the white back side and barely noticeable on front . A kind ebay patron , provided some additional information: this is actually called stick spongeware, or stickware. A sponge is taken and a detailed image carved out of it and then glued onto a stick. The painter daubs the sponge into the color of paint he is using and then daubs it onto the item. In the case of this plate, it is the little blue flowers at least that were done that way. The larger flowers and leaves were made with a technique called brush stroke. It is because each petal and leaf section is made with a single stroke of a paint loaded brush. This item is rare and very hard to find. Please see images for colors and details.
