Description: A Unique Antique Painting Circa 1900 Artist: Henry S. Bullock , Michigan 1845 - 1924 You may be wondering why i used the Boer War and San Francisco in the Heading Its Not to do with the painting but what i found under the back board. They have used the Front Page of a 124 Year Old Newspaper for a filler The Newpaper is the San Francisco " The Call '' , Dated February 18th 1900 The Headlines Read : Cronje Reported to have been Cornered by the British Troops. Also : General Buller Appears to be making another Desperate Effort to Relieve Ladysmith General French and his Artillery are mentioned in another article The Painting is a Water Color Signed Henry S. Bullock The Frame Measures outside to outside 19 X 16 The Watercolor Measures 11 1/2 X 8 The image Size through the cut out in the matting is 10 1/4 X 7 The Art is Behind Glass,, The glass isn't cracked and is in very good condition for its age The Reason why i pulled this apart was that there was some dark places on the mat I thought it might be flecks of dirt ,, but it is specks of lost paint on the matting The Mat is a fairly heavy piece of textured board ,,, 2 mm Thick and No DamageBut it could use a coat of paint The Painting itself is in Near Excellent Condition ,, The Frame has a Plaster Finish with some small Losses to the Plaster Edge . The back board uses 2 pieces of thin cut Fir The old newspaper is fragile but can be handled It was 1 1/2 in to long to fit in the frame opening so they folded it over This 1 1/2 inch long fold is now separate from the rest of the paper There is an imprint on the rear of the mat where the newspaper has been for 124 years Note : If i was going to keep this i'd do some light restoration on it , then the back ,,, I'd Not put the back board back on But instead i'd get a piece of glass cut for the back ,,, to show off the Newspaper and the paintings age and History But for Now i'm going to put the back board back on for Shipping The Painting will be Insured for shipping You have any question feel free to ask Thanks for Looking .
