Description: A stunning example from the well-regarded Orivit workshop of Cologne, Germany of an Art Nouveau pewter tray with glass base Circa 1904. The secessionist pewter framework with its fluid, whiplash decorated border has swirling foliate patterns in relief. The large tray is flanked by curving, open Art Nouveau handles with the firm's marks stamped beneath. I believe this may have been wooden originally. Supported by eight feet, one having replaced. Orivit, founded by Wilhelm Ferdinand Hubert Schnitz in 1894, commissioned well-known designers such as Hermann Gradl and Walter Scherf. In 1904 the firm was acquired by WMF (Wurttembergische Metalwaren Fabrik). In very good condition with only minor surface scratches as to be expected from a piece of this period. Lovely piece. 49.5 cm in length x 31 cm in width Please note the items I sell are antique/vintage and by their very nature may show signs of wear and tear commensurate with age and use. I try to photograph/detail any imperfections but would ask that you please study the photographs as these form part of the description. If you require any further information please contact me.
