Description: Offered is a late 19th or early 20th century, OOAK, casting, of a marine or sea turtle. Many unique, and OOAK items like this were made in foundries at the end of the day, by impressing a subject into fine sand, to create a mold, & then filling it with excess molten metal. In this case iron. The result were pieces like this, with a much higher degree of detail than what any standard mold produced. Manufacture of this, was also a little more complex. It required a mold insert, to form the recess in the back for a pipe. Serves a dual purpose, as pipe rest, and paperweight. Found in the original, & beautifully patinated bronze finish. A unique piece for the sea turtle, pipe, or iron collector.. I'll guarantee there isn't another like it, for sale anywhere! I've been buying & selling here for over 20 years. Most of my items have been off the market, from estates, or in collections for decades. They are guaranteed to be as described, and are often OOAK, especially as far as availability on eBay.
