Description: Original antique Barbizon School style oil painting on wooden panel depicting a woman and child in a deep forest being accosted or assisted by a pair of soldiers. The work is signed in the lower left N. Diaz Pena to indicated the Barbizon master Narcisse Virgil Diaz de la Pena (1807-1876). The red signature looks a bit dodgy, however it does seems to be over a very faint earlier signature. Under these circumstances this work should be termed - Manner of Diaz de la Pena The painting measures 10 5/8 x 7 3/8 inches, approx. 16 x 12 1/2 inches including the frame. The frame is in fairly rough shape with many chips and touch ups, it is antique and has a Buenos Aires frame label. The painting and its panel are in excellent condition.
