All pieces of the necklace chain and box pendant are high quality sterling silver (tested). The necklace features a beautiful large gau box pendant with ornate repousse silver work on the front and back. The box pendant measures just over 2.5 inches and opens. Inside is a number of layers of old paper. The necklace double chain is also sterling silver and has a beautiful 3 ring and flower adornment with bells at the top. Just above the box is two very heavy sterling tribal cone shaped connectors. And at the base of the box are 9 sterling dangling bell charms. Very beautiful early 1900s piece! Weight - approximately 134 grams. In fine antique condition. Gau are amulet boxes made of precious metals, turquoise, coral, or other jewels. Traditionally, Tibetans wear them around their neck, and inside the wearer places amulets that can help heal or prevent disease and serve as a protection.
