Antique, nearly two hundred years old miniature or pocket edition of Kempis's Imitation of Christ, in French and bound in decorative fine leather binding with slipcase. Book is in overall good condition. Exterior is clean and very well intact with only minor rubs to the relief worked designs of the covers and gentle rubs to the outer corners and edges of the boards and spine. Gold gilded and embossed design to the spine face is well intact and the outer page fore edges are gold gilded. Interior of the book shows moderate to light foxing throughout with some occasional light soiling and on two page leaves containing pages iii and iv and xxix and xxx there are heavier ink marks which interfere with the legibility of the text. Page leaf that contains pages xv and xvi is present but out of order from the rest of the introduction, bound in just after the title page and one page leaf of the "table" or contents at the back of the book that contained pages 385/386 has been torn out with a small bit of the page remaining and the adjacent page 387/388 partially detached from the binding from top down about 1/3 of the way. Book is complete aside for the aforementioned missing page of the contents at the back of the book and binding is overall firm and tight. Book retains its structural integrity. Slipcase shows some minor wear like some peeling to the outer paper over the board on one side and some heavier rubbing at the corners and edges but retains its structural integrity. Book is numbered 392 pages and in slipcase measures approximately 4 x 2 15/16 x 1 inches and weighs about 1/4 pounds.
