MOLIERE-SGANARELLE-COCU IMAGINAIRE-CUCKOLD | DPO-PCO-B1-34 BACKGROUND INFORMATION From the 1734 edition of 'Oeuvres de Moliere', published in Paris. Biography engraver: Laurent Cars (Lyons 1699 - Pairs 1771) was a French designer and engraver. Cars is considered one of the best engravers of the French 18th century. He was the master of Beauvarlet. Cars' most important work are plates after Lemoyne as well as the plates after Boucher, illustrating Moliere. Francois Boucher (1703-1770) was a French painter, a proponent of Rococo taste, known for his idyllic and voluptuous paintings on classical themes, decorative allegories representing the arts or pastoral occupations, intended as a sort of two-dimensional furniture. He was perhaps the most celebrated decorative artist of the 18th century.
