Description: Antique Bernard Block Tobacco Jar This is a handsome and collectible 19th Century Tobacco Jar by Bernard Bloch. Bloch was a pre-eminent entrepreneur in the field of the ceramic industry, establishing the B. Bloch & Co. factory in 1869.He gained fame with the production of figural tobacco containers such as this, characterized by detail and refined processing. The factory was seized and sold by the Nazis during WWII.This tobacco is in good condition for age. It is beautifully hand-painted with glossy face and hat. There are two flea bites on the right collar and a flea bit on his left sideburn. There is an irregular spot on the hat brim.There are no cracks. This jar measures 6 inches tall and 5 inches from tip of the nose to back of hat. The bottom is marked BB.
