Description: Antique LF&C Carbon Steel Chef's Serrated Slicing/Bread Knife LF & C - 13 5/8" overall I bought this back in 2010 from an eBay seller whose handle was ralph1396. I can't tell if he's still selling anymore, but he knew his stuff and had good quality vintage knifes. This is what he wrote back then as his description, and nothing has changed since then, as I have taken good care of it and used it on only a small number of loaves of hand-made no-knead bread over the years: Hand-forged in the Mt. Aetna Works of legendary cutlers Landers, Frary & Clark, it's a piece that was originally sold as a carving knife but most chefs today prefer a carver with a straight edge and would call this a bread knife. Condition is excellent, with no problems of any kind to its full blade and gorgeously patinated rosewood handle, which is bolstered in pewter at both ends and brass-pinned over a full and tapered tang. Like all carbon steel knives, it must be kept dry, even during use, but this minor inconvenience is more than offset by the superb edge maintenance and performance offered by carbon steel, as any experienced chef or butcher over the age of 50 can confirm. Measures 13-5/8" long with 8.75" blade. Here's some info on the company that made the knife: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Landers,_Frary_%26_Clark It was New Britain, Connecticut, starting around 1842! Specs: Steel Type: High Carbon SteelHandle Material: Rosewood with Pewter end and brass pinsWeight: 4.625 ozOverall Length: 13 5/8"Blade Cutting Edge Length: 8.75"Heel Height: 1/4" (negligible b/c it's a slicer, not a chopper) Condition: Used, good condition. This has been lightly used by me and still has much life left. Some words from the previous owner: Some pits and oxidation towards the bolster (see photos) but still is quite sharp and has lots of life left. There appears to be a stress fracture in the handle but in reality it is a deep scratch. You can see the logo stamped on the side of the blade but it has worn down so one wouldn't necessarily know that it reads "Landers, Frary & Clark" unless you know what to look for. But it's there and you can see it in some of the photos!
