Description: Langham Ware is a British Pottery and Glassworks maker whose remarkable pieces are not as well-known in the States as they are overseas. The soft, pastel color scheme, graceful, scalloped shape and period-appropriate fleur-de-lys motif seem to date this from the 1920s-40s, and quite possibly earlier. There is no drainage hole so you will want to use a liner that has one. I’m envisioning tiny ivy to echo the fleur-de-lys shape, or possibly African violets, which were so popular during this period. Condition is remarkable for an item that could easily be an antique. There is some possibly- intentional whitening of the turquoise interior glaze. The glaze skips the points of the fleurs-de-lys but I don’t think this is damage. There are a few glaze blips and drips, as this is a handmade piece. This little pumpkin-shaped planter has quite a lot of presence for a 7” piece. A lovely addition to your 20s, Art Pottery, or Britishware collection, and a beautiful home for a lucky houseplant.
