Description: One (1) antique soft metal tsuba. Gourds and vines. Nanako background. Ko-Kinko school. Sanmai type tsuba. Thick copper inner plate layered between two thin embossed shakudo plates. Gold plated highlights. I believe the outside of this tsuba was cut down for a wakizashi at a later date. No rim around edge usually present on Sanmai tsubas. Early to mid Edo Period, 1603-1750 possibly Momoyama Period 1573-1603. Good condition- minor wear, splits along fused shakudo plates along edges (see pictures). Measures 2 1/2 inches by 2 7/16 inches and 1/8 inch thick. Nakago ana measures 1 1/16 inches by 1/4 inch. See my other sword fittings and Japanese and Chinese antiques.
