A font is used in the Catholic Church, Anglican Churches, and some Lutheran churches to make the Sign of the Cross using the holy water upon entrance of the church. Holy water is blessed by a priest or a deacon, and many Christians believe it to be a reminder of the baptismal promises. This Font came out of a private New York Estate Collection. It features Jesus on the cross surrounded by two angels. One hold a harpsichord and the other a sword. Originally gold gilded but with much of the original gilding worn due to ages of hand touching. The figural element on the bottom showing signs of worn polychrome. Secured with square nuts. Condition: Overall good. Hairline break on cross just above Jesus. Not affecting it structurally. Worn gild and polychrome. All age appropriate wear. Measurements: 13 1/4”T x 6”W x 3” deep
