Description: A scarce and beautiful antique 19th century or earlier hand painted floral covered tripod box from the era of Japanese fine art pottery. It is signed and has one of the designs used during the golden Imperial period pottery. I do not recognize the signature it seems to be an abbreviated form. However from the very fineness of the pottery and the soft cream colour of the glaze plus the the tripod feet design, I would guess it may be from the Kinkozan Pottery of Kyoto Japan (c1645 to 1927) and possibly before they joined with Satsuma for the marketing of their wares (c1875 to 1927).It is in perfect condition with no wear to the paintings, no chips, no cracks, no repairs. Very minor wear to the gilding on the top edge. There is the normal for this period very fine crackling of the glaze and also some subtle kiln smoke marks on the underside and the interior of the lid. (this is the period of wood fired kilns.)The size is 2 1/2" in diameter and 1 1/2" high. All special items are triple wrapped, double boxed, tracked and insured for delivery.
