Description: Based in Florence, Italy, Fratelli Alinari is the oldest photographic firm in the world. Founded in 1852 by Leopoldo Alinari (1832-1865), joined two years later by his brothers Romualdo (1830-1890) and Giuseppe (1836-1890). After Leopoldo's death his brothers continued the business, and after their death Leopoldo's son Vittorio (1859-1932) took over. Vittorio sold the business in 1920 but it continued trading under the Fratelli Alinari name (Fratelli Alinari I.D.E.A., or Instituto di Edizioni Artistiche). This is an antique gold leaf print on wood of the artist Moses Hyman's (b. 1870) etching entitled "A Patriarch". It bears the original label on the reverse. Label reads, "F.LLI Alinari Soc. Az. I.D.E.A. Via Nazionale, 6 - Firenze Italy". Striking antique piece measures approximately 16" H x 12" L x .75" D. Condition as shown, with some wear and paper, paint loss consistent with age.
