Description: ANTIQUE FUSEE VERGE ENAMELED HUNTING SCENE POCELAIN DIAL POCKET WATCH This listing is for an Antique silver and brass verge fusee open face pocket watch with enamel hand painted hunting scene dial. I believe this watch was made in France circa early 1800's. It mounts a two-leaf silver gilt-brass casing with open face and flat round pendant in horizontal alignment with an ovoid bow, placed at the twelve-position relative to the dial. The movement is hinged to the rear cap; this cap is made of polished silver over brass and bears no decoration at all. The front cap is made of glass and bears a wide silver frame. The glass protects a fine-looking white dial with a hand-painted enameled hunting scene. The scene shows a French hunter from those times with his rifle and his dog; the dog is waiting to bring back a hunted bird. The center dial is white with Arabic numbers with spaces for the minute markers. There is only one hand present and the dial is loose. The winding aperture of the time dial is at the position of hour number two, with some chipping around the hole. The key does wind the watch and the balance wheel turns with a slow rhythm. I have not tested the time. Under the rear cap we find the fine gilt-brass movement, with brass fluted pillars pinned at the back plate, and verge escapement with chain-fusee driven movement. The back plate has the typical round French skeletonized brass foliate balance bridge, with screws at opposite ends and a silver regulator plate. The back plate is unsigned. The front plate is marked with the letter "P" and "FGDM". The inside of the back case is marked "LE" inside a square and the number 4977. The movement is overall in good condition. The watch is approx. 53mm in diameter and 22mm thick. The movement meas. approx. 46mm in diam. Key included. Shipping weight is 15 ounces.
