Description: Antique French Fashion Shadow Box Print, Embellished Fabric Dress This stunning framed French lithograph, Leroy Imp a’ Paris print has a deep shadow box, gold and off white painted wood frame with the interior top detailed with colored fabric fringes. 1872’s genuine hand tinted print. The colored fashion plates are from an 1870s French La Mode Illustree and the dresses have delightfully minute details and perfect scale in regard to the fabric texture/patterns, fit, folds and contours. Print shows two woman showing a beaded necklace that came out of an opened jewelry box. Both woman have beaded earrings. French knot embroidery is worked into the background print and as a ribbon in their hair. I believe this was made around the 1920’s – 1930’s when it was a rage to take old fashion prints and embellish them with hand made elaborate draped fabric clothing details in the bustle dresses to enhance the print forming a 3D design. This was done in Paris France. The back of frame has a label that reads: “PIMPRENELLE C. SAXE, PARIS, 1ERE’ MARQUE FRANCAISE. MADE IN FRANCE.” Truly an amazing sewing technique that features the ladies dressed in delicate hand made very full dresses and accessories made from silk, satin, cotton, velvet, ribbon and lace. High quality, finely made costumes and framing which appear commercially made to me, ideal advertising material for dress shops of the day. The frame has a small light mounted in back to illuminate. A gentle evening past time for a lady to undertake, clearly from a bygone era. CONDITION Frame and print are in very good condition. Dressed figures are in excellent vibrant condition. No fading, no stains, or discoloration in material, and no water damage stains. Background hand painted print has foxing throughout. There is some minor dust particles on the inside, which could be cleaned if you opened the back, I just wanted to sell it intact and untouched. The print is exactly how I found it, apart from the dust having been brushed off the outside of the glass to photograph them. The light cord is old and I did not test to see if it works. Still has its original backing paper with label. APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS Frame size is approximately 13-3/4"W x 15-3/4"H x 3”D. Print measures 10” wide x 12” height.
