Description: Flagg & Homen was founded in Cincinnati in 1847 by Henry Homan and Asa F. Flagg as manufacturers of Britannia ware. The Homan family managed the business as Homan & Co until 1887, gradually changing from the manufacture of pewter, Britannia metal, and German silver to electroplated silverware. Around 1896 the owners changed the name of the firm to Homan Silver Plate Company, which was succeeded (between 1904 and 1915) by Homan Manufacturing Company. The firm went out of business in 1941. This creamer, then, was manufactured between 1847 and 1887, before the changeover to electroplate. It is a single piece in excellent condition, and has not been polished to our knowledge. The body is gored and the top edge is ruffled with a clean spout. The handle fits the finger splendidly and is ornate without becoming overbearing. The foot of the creamer is simple and the bottom bears the company mark and make. The creamer measures 3 1/2" at tallest points, and measures 4 7/8" from handle to end of spout. Opening diameter is 2 1/2", and the cup depth is 3". The foot diameter is 2". Stored in a non-smoking environment.
