Description: Here we have a 19th century Blue Willow transferware XL 17" ironstone platter from which Lord Nelson may have been served his dinner! Fladong's Hotel, one of the most fashionable hotels of London in the 1800s, housed a tavern that was a "naval officers' haven." According to our research, it was located at 144 Oxford Street (the corner of Oxford and Orchard) between at least the years 1810 and 1862. See photo showing a page from the memoir of a low-ranking naval officer of the time for more information on the hotel. Assumed to be an early Mason's piece, based on the crown mark, and research of other same sold pieces. Combed texture on bottom; eight-sided with slight indents or scallops where each side meets another. Please see our store for other fabulous pieces of ironstone and transferware in our store, to which we add new inventory daily. We're always happy to combine shipping at actual cost. If the eBay checkout fails to properly combine your orders, we will issue a refund for the difference between what you paid to ship items separately and the actual cost of the combined shipping, on the day that we ship your package. (We don't find out the actual cost of combined shipping until we purchase the shipping label.) Approximate measurements: 17 x 13 3/8" Condition: Our photographs reveal the condition best -- please enlarge and zoom in on them, and examine them carefully. We often add graphics such as arrows, circles, and text boxes to our photos to point out things of interest that might be hard to see, such as a price tag or maker's mark, as well as to highlight many condition flaws. Excellent antique condition, with no chips or cracks of any size, and no crazing that we've been able to find. Significant edge wear, but no chips, just the brown spots that old ironstone gets. Those brown spots are also lightly scattered along the inner rim on the front, and in large sections on the back. One impact divot, lower left front, on the border, not terribly noticeable -- see photo highlighting it. Scattered light scratches across the surface, better than typical for restaurant ware of this age. Beautiful piece, great history. Will arrive ready for display and/or continued service. Shipping: The insurance cost alone for this package is at least $4.60. We do our best to provide the lowest shipping rates by giving you as many choices as possible. You can find all of the rates available to you by scrolling to the Shipping section below (if on the app/a cell phone) or by clicking on the "SEE DETAILS" link to the right of the "Shipping" amount noted next to the photos (if on the browser/computer version.) These are the only ways to view all of your shipping options (including their costs and arrival dates.) We consider funky odors (cigarette smoke, mildew, etc) to be an important part of a condition report. Corndogcache is a 100% non-smoking environment, and we'll let you know if any of our vintage items smell like it (or anything else) from activities they may have been involved in before they came to us.The Fine Print: We expect payment within 1 day of purchase. If you're waiting for other auctions to end so that you can combine shipping, shoot us a message to let us know.If you're unable to pay within terms, please reach out with your Plan B. Things happen. Especially these days. So just shoot us a message. We don't accept buyer-remorse returns but we will grant you the use of our description and photos so that you can re-ebay the item yourself.Although we don't accept buyer-remorse returns, reach out if you're unhappy with your purchase! If we messed up -- everybody does -- give us a chance to fix it. We promise it was unintentional, and we'll do what we can to make it right.
