Description: This is an antique Edwardian tea dress, a lovely confection of semi-sheer cotton lawn trimmed with Irish crochet lace. I date it to the early 1900s because it has a bit of the pigeon waist look. The bodice is decorated with a collar-like inset of the Irish lace, with seven large raised roses around the neckline, three of which form a center emblem. The lace continues with four short panels at the top and a panel down the front, and there's lace forming the waistband. There are many many little pin tucks that release fullness into the bodice. The sleeves also have lace around the ends and an insert at the center as shown. The skirt is attached to the lace waistband; there are more pin tucks at the top of the skirt and it flares out from the waist. The skirt has three deep horizontal flounces toward the hem. In the back the top has a center covered button band and the lace waistband has three hooks and eyes; and then there are more hooks and eyes at the top of the skirt, offset from the center as shown. You would definitely need help getting this done up the back!! This is just gorgeous but it's quite small. It's hard to imagine this fitting any modern woman - PLEASE check the measurements below. measurements, all taken with garment lying flat 14" across front from shoulder to shoulder19" across front at underarms10" across front at waist17.5" across front at hip level33.5" across front at hem12.5" sleeve length from shoulder top13.5" length from center top to waist36.5" skirt length40.5" total length Yes, that really says the waist is 10" across, so a 20" waist. I believe that the wearer would have worn a laced corset under this. However, the proportions appear pretty much consistent on the whole garment. I have soaked, laundered, and pressed this, and can report that the fabric is in sound condition. It is soft and supple and not brittle. This is in excellent condition with no holes, rips, or large stains. I did find two tiny rust spots on the back of the skirt from contact with the hooks and eyes, as shown in the last photo. That's the only fault on this anywhere - I ironed it and can tell you that the lace is in very good shape. This may not fit many modern women but it is a great example of its genre and it displays beautifully.
