Description: ANTIQUE EARLY 1900’S USMC CPL. SCRAP BOOK EPHEMERA SALVAGED ITEMSI came across a much damaged scrap book (which was a converted ledger). This listing was attempts to salvage what could be salvaged. The scrapbook was put together by Cpl. G.F. Wilson USMC in the very early 1900’s. Most was destroyed and had to be tossed, but some items made it and very unique to the early time period of the Marine Corps. Cpl. Wilson obviously served during the Nicaraguan Campaign and probably a China Marine at one point. The listings consist of things I could salvage, the conditions vary, but normal for these antique item. There is yellowing, fading, partial clippings and such on the back of the one I am listing. Some may have been clipped close to the edge…not by me…but buy the owner. What you see in the pictures is what you get, no more, no less. A very neat history of the early U.S. Marine Corps. This one is a newspaper clipping of "Los Diablos Rojo's" (The Red Devils) air USMC stunt team, red below, very interesting founding.23 September 1927 the National Air Races were in Spokane. Stunt flying included such greats as Lieutenant “Jimmy” Doolittle of the Army Air Corps, 1LT Lawson H. “Sandy” Sanderson, USMC and LT D.W. Tomlison, USN. They flew by the name The Three Musketeers and stole the show with inverted flight maneuvers.LT Tomlinson, who was XO of squadron VB-2B at the time, vowed that he would do what he could to insure the Navy had a suitable team at the National Air Races the following year. The team consisted of himself, LTJG W.V. “Bill” Davis Jr. USN and LTJG A.P. “Putt” Storrs USN and was approved by the Navy to participate in the 1928 Air Races. They called themselves The Three Seahawks” and was the earliest forerunners of the Blue Angels. Several others teams during this period: The High Hatters of Squadron VF-1 The Three Flying Fish The Red Rippers of Squadron VF-B The Three T’Gallants formed at NAS Pensacola The Los Diablos Rojos (The Red Devils) The Los Diablos Rojos (Red Devils) is the one pictured after winning the first cup at the All-American Air Races in Miami, FL. It measures approximatelt 5" x 4".Anything left on the back was not the object in question, only remnants of the back page. If you have any questions...please ask before bidding.
