Description: The family business Tillmann & Bendel, Wholesale Grocers, was started in 1857. It was listed as wholesale grocers and importers of teas, coffees and cigars. It was an impressive building but crumbled with the earthquake of 1906. It was rebuilt in 1908. This is just an outstanding aqua bottle standing a full foot high, 2 ½” across, ornately made with 10 panels and a nice bubble neck. It is boldly embossed “TILLMANN & BENDEL, SAN FRANCISCO”. I would date this one in the early 1900s. It is hard to tell what was in it. It could have been olive oil or vinegar, but I don’t think it was a liquor product. There are not many of these out there and this one is shiny clean. Alas, there is a chip on the lip. There are also a couple of stubborn stains on the inside. Overall, the bottle is an absolutely wonderful relic of San Francisco history.
