Description: This is a blue first generation antique Nueva Cadiz three layer compound drawn bead which was quite possibly made in Murano, Italy and which was found in Peru, South America. Nueva Cadiz beads such as this were traded to the New World by the Spaniards during their travels beginning in the 15th century and eventually were traded onwards being distributed throughout North and South America. Please see 'Volume 7 - Chevron And Nueva Cadiz Beads' by John & Ruth Picard for more information. Nueva Cadiz beads can also be seen in the book 'The History Of Beads' by Lois Sherr Dubin on the timeline bead chart between 1500 and 1600. This antique bead measures 0.68 inches long by 0.22 inches wide. Be sure to review these measurements and use a caliper to understand bead size before buying. This antique bead is in great condition with surface wear and slight dings. Perfect for adding to your African trade bead collection or for jewelry applications. I combine shipping on multiple buys so please be sure to check out my eBay store where I have thousands of items to browse including antique beads, ancient beads and trade beads.
