This pan was found in Georgia and was probably made in the South. Condition: As cast with a five-inch gate mark on a smooth bottom. Early Deep Chicken Fryer Pan, Raised Sideways No. 11 on Top of Flat Handle, Smooth Botton /w Slash Mark? Five-inch slash mark suggests pre-1890s? Rim has slight flare and is .25-inches thick. Diameter is 11.25-inches. Height is 3.5-inches. Weight is 8 pounds, 1.6 ounces. Pre-1890s cast iron cookware could be made by anyone with a foundry operation (for example, blacksmiths), access to fine sand, and the knowledge to make a mold or pattern off another cast iron pan.
