Description: Antique Victorian Deep Acid Etched Glass Kerosene Lamp Shade.Bowl-shaped upturned glass shade with acid etched floral design (look like overlapping poppies to me). 4" Fitter. Measures about 7 3/4" diameter (top rim) and 4 1/8" tall. It has 12 very small indentations along the top rim (they appear hand done). Not pressed glass (there is no seam). Thin light weight glass. Rings like a bell when struck with finger. A shade such as this would typically be found on Victorian kerosene or oil lamps or gas fixtures. The shade would fit around a clear glass hurricane chimney to add decoration and to diffuse the light. They typically date from the 1870s to the early 1900s. The last four photos show examples of kerosene lamps with this style of shade. This shade could be used with any lamp or light fixture with a 4-inch fitter. It is in excellent flawless condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. There are some imperfections in the etched pattern (original to the etching process, not damage). There is one bubble in the glass on the inside of the shade.
