Description: A rare and very unique piece of instructional equipment, battery operated and loud! Makes a rhythmic "clack" that can be sped up or slowed down and altered timing by creating holes in the paper discs. Complicated rhythms can be created and reproduced. This might be an early forerunner of the digital drum machine, and a huge upgrade from a standard metronome at that time. Overall condition is quite good, black painted wood box is still tight and strong, and needs to be strong because this is heavy. The internal mechanism is similar to a clock-work of gears. Fascinating indeed. It will run briefly on modern D cell batteries but was designed for an older style battery which is no longer made. If one were to connect the appropriate external power supply, and put some fresh lube on the clock-work it would truly be spectacular and even suitable for use as a movie prop or permanent dance studio display installation.
