Description: Item DetailsEarly 19th Century French Empire Ormolu Mantel Clock, circa 1820 Offers Welcome A large example of a French Empire ormolu clock depicting the allegory of nature featuring a standing gentleman. The figure of the gentleman surmounts the case whilst holding a shovel with a basket full of fruit. The figure of the gentleman has been finely chiselled; he has very realistic features; pay particular attention to the hands, face and and finger nails. Various naturalistic attributes decorate the side elevation of the clock including ormolu foliage. The clock demonstrates the finest quality of craftsmanship, featuring a white enamel dial with black hand painted Roman numerals and outer chapter indicating minute marks. The dial is encased within an ormolu beaded rim. This fine clock stands upon a rectangular base with bracket fee and swept plinth. The front elevation of the base features repoussé work with a classical gentleman, lady and a cherubs face. The clock features an 8 day twin train silk suspended mechanical movement striking the hours and half on a bell and is regulated by a countwheel. The pendulum, winding key and bell are present. Approximate dimensions: 39 cm high x 27 cm wide Approximate weight: 3 KG Condition: Overall, the clock is in good working condition. The ormolu is in good condition and retains a very good colour. Please note, whilst the clock currently works, during transport, all clocks are moved around a lot, and therefore, they may require setting up upon receiving them as well as the possibility of requiring professional assistance or a service as they can get 'stuck'. There is no guarantee that the clock will work smoothly after it has been transported. Please study the pictures and ask any questions that you may have.
