Description: This antique Chinese opium lamp is a stunning piece that will add a touch of history to any collection. Made of copper, it has a beautiful brown color and shows signs of patina and burn marks, adding to its unique character. The lamp is an original piece from China, dating back to the late 19th century (1850-1899) and is in great shape for its age. I tried to remove the patina from one side , but after rubbing for a long time some black remained. I looked with my loupe and realized it was actually burn marks that was left behind. So the lamp was used! It is a nice piece of workmanship. The center is a square that is 2 1/2” on each side and the lamp is 4 1/4”tall. Each side panel has an alternating stone of red and green. The stones represent flowers with stems and leaves formed in the copper. The glass comes to a small hole for the opium vapor to be breathed. The bottom is a circle with an ornate trim attached. The maker of the lamp is China, making it a true piece of the region. This lamp is perfect for anyone who appreciates antiques, especially those interested in Asian antiques from China. It will make a great addition to any collection and is sure to be a conversation piece. Don't miss out on the opportunity to own this beautiful and rare antique Chinese opium lamp. It is hard to come by opium lamps because the Chinese government realized what had happened to their people and country with British imports of opium. In 1839 China had the delivery of opium directed by Lin Zexu to destroy the opium at Humen beach. Over 1,150,000 Kg of opium were destroyed. This started a war, but it started the Chinese back on the road to recovery.
