Description: Please email with any questions. 5 1/4" diameter dish stamped MADE IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA, decorated with transferware image of a fashionable beauty by illustrator Philip Boileau, copyright date 1907. The woman has a large hat with white plumes. No chips or cracks some slight surface marks on the transfer design and hand painted brown band around the rim. Boileau was born in Canada in 1864 and emigrated to the USA in 1897. He painted many portraits of society women and children and also found commercial success after meeting and later marrying Emily Gilbert whose lovely face was the model for many of Boileau's work- I think this piece is one of his "Emily" portraits. Pretty piece for your dressing table or to hang.
