Description: Antique c1860s Czech/Bohemian Ruby Red Cut Engraved Glass Pewter Lid Tankard Presented is a fabulous Czech/Bohemian ruby cut to clear glass tankard, with pewter mounts. This piece dates to circa 1850-1900. The tankard is cut in a handsome square paneled form, with each panel showing either a finely cut and etched locale or a round ponty or thumbprint design. The places depicted (Salzquelle, Franzenquelle, Louisenquelle) are all natural mineral springs in the modern day Czech Republic (then Bohemia), just over what is now the German border. For a nice touch, the lid has a little etched vignette of a running deer leaping a fence. The tankard has a capacity of about 2 cups, or 16 fluid ounces/475 milliliters. This piece is in excellent condition. There is some shelf wear to the underside, as you'd expect to see on a piece of this age, but this is just around the edge—the concave bottom remains clear enough you could look through it while you finish a drink. There are no chips, no cracks, no breaks, and no repairs. The tankard stands about 6 3/8 inches tall and measures about 4 1/2 inches from handle to spout, or about 3 1/4 inches in diameter. -jm Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
