Description: Presented is a large antique pair of American coin silver ice tongs made by Bigelow Brothers & Kennard of Boston, MA between the 1840s and 1865. This mid 19th century piece is done in an Olive pattern. One foot is done in a claw or talon form and the other is done in a shell spoon form. The top of the tongs have an old, original monogram of the initials CLH. Neither of the two cartouches have ever been monogrammed. These are 100% ice tongs. They are not sugar tongs.The inside of one arm is marked Bigelow Bros & Kennard. Guaranteed to be at least coin silver purity.This piece is in great overall condition for its age.
