Description: A late 19th or early 20th century Burr wood veneered French glove box with forged steel corner protectors on the lid. A metal ‘cartouche’, centred in the middle of the lid has the word ‘Gants’ (gloves) engraved in Gothic script. The box has been re-lined, a long time ago, with patterned paper, but you can see that originally it was lined with pale turquoise paper (photos 23 and 24). The box measures 25.5cm x 10cm wide x 7.6cm tall. The key turns smoothly in the lock, but you need to press the lid down hard to lock and open it. Condition – it has wear in keeping with age and use:- on the front edge of the lid and on the left side of the lid, small veneer loss; internally front corners have ebonised wood loss; on the lid, the metal corner protector on the left corner has a split (photo 22) Please scroll through all of the photographs as they form part of the description.
