Description: Antique Bronze Mathurin Moreau Sculpture - La Libellule - 'The Dragonfly' Dimensions are ; 14 1/2" high , with a base measurement of 5 7/8" diameter . Material is plated (brass) bronze . This wonderful piece is by sculptor Mathurin Moreau ( 1822 - 1914 ) . Imaged here is a winged nymph seated on a tree trunk around which grow various flora . She bears very small wings which sprout from between her shoulder blades and she is barely clad in a flowing garment/wrap that slinks off her shoulders and exposes the right side of her body , hip thigh and leg in a pose of understated eroticism . She glances down to her lower right as a single finger on her right hand gently touches her neck . Her left leg and foot hang delicately off the trunk that she's alighted on and her mood is pensive . Thoughts of love ? Perhaps . This sculpture exists in different sizes and finishes . 30" ( $18,000 ) , 25" ( $15,000 ) , 14.5" ( normally $4,500 ) , Bronze , gilt bronze , silvered bronze , and here rather uniquely polished brass on bronze . The base is black metal . She is called 'The Dragonfly' , and she's exquisite even with the various small nicks in the plating finish ( see photos ) . We have priced her very reasonably at $695 , after all , this is a Moreau .
