Description: Antique Book The Motor Cycle Chums Through Historic America 1915. The book is in good condition for its age, there are some stains on the cover, a few small brown stains on a couple of the pages, there is a library stamp on the inside front cover, and the pages are little separated at the spine on the first couple of pages, however still fully intact (see photos for all of these). Otherwise, the pages are in great condition without marks, tears, or other damage. Author Lieutenant Howard Payson. Illustrated by Charles L. Wrenn. Published by Hurst & Company in New York. Copyright 1915 by Hurst & Company. I believe this is a first edition, no other dates are listed on the copyright page. At the back of the book there are some neat book ads that are fun to look at, for the Boy Aviators' Series, the Oakdale Academy Series, the Border Boys Series, the Boy Inventors Series, and the Bungalow Boys Series. 7.5" tall and 5" wide. Lieutenant Howard Payson was a pseudonym used by John Henry Goldfrap, an English author and journalist, born in April 1879, in North Devon. He was a staff member at "Evening World". After coming to the United States, Goldfrap worked for a San Francisco newspaper, and then moved to New York in 1905. He wrote children's stories, boy's books series, newspaper articles, and movie scripts. Other pseudonyms he used include Captain James Carson, Freemont B. Deering, Marvin West, and Captain Wilbur Lawson. He wrote the script for the 1915 film "The Wonderful Adventure". Goldfrap wrote for the following book series: The Boy Aviators (8 volumes 1910-1915), The Dreadnought Boys (6 volumes 1911-1914), The Ocean Wireless Boys (6 volumes 1914-1917), The Boy Scouts (14 volumes 1911-1918), The Motor Cycle Chums (6 volumes 1912-1915), The Motor Rangers (6 volumes 1911-1914), and The Border Boys (6 volumes 1911-1914). John Henry Goldfrap died on November 21, 1917, in New York, at the age of 38.
