Description: Antique Beyer & Bock Prussia Horse Drawn Carriage Plate. Measurements: This plate is 8-1/2" in Width. Maker's Marks: This 'PRUSSIA-Crown over B in shield-ROYAL RUDOLSTADT' mark was used by Beyer & Bock from ca.1905 until ca.1931. Although the mark states 'Royal Rudolstadt', in this case it refers to it as a Trade Name, not a company name. In the center circle is a spired tower printed green mark. I do not know what this is associated to, but likely the producer of the white blank which was decorated by Beyer & Boch. Company History: Ferdinand Beyer and Theodor Bock were operating a paint shop/decorating company in Volkstedt, Thuringia, Germany as early as 1853. Their initially small business expanded to where Ferdinand Beyer was able to take his son Alfred into the business in 1869. What's more, Alfred got married to Theodor's Bock daughter. In 1890, the company was making and decorating porcelain and formed Volkstedt-Rudolstadt porcelain factory. By 1903 the factory employed 230 workers. In 1908 the company as co-owner was joined by Alfred's son, Max Beyer. Beyer & Bock products were highly regarded for its quality and were exported to Scandinavia and Holland, as well as to Italy, England, North and South America. Alfred Beyer died in 1926. The factory produced high quality porcelain items until 1960 when it was nationalized, becoming Porcelain Factory Rudolstadt Volkstedt. Condition: Excellent condition for it's age with no chips, cracks or repairs. Signs of light use as expected. See photos.
