Description: Beautiful, Amazing Austro Hungarian Antique necklace. Gold washed silver tone metal or silver. The gold plating is coming off of this 100 year old necklace. The Pearls are pearls or freshwater pearls but I other than the one dyed emerald I added, I am not able to verify what the other green stones are. The top middle green stones had fallen out and I had the jeweler replace it with an Emerald (probably dyed with flaws) rather than a tsavorite garnet or glass. The rest of the green stones are not Emeralds but beyond this the Jeweler did not know what they were. I am guessing glass otherwise known as paste. My local jeweler measured the refractive index as being 1.79 which could be tsavorite garnet but I could not confirm this. I took it to the San Mateo Gem show and although many venders were willing to sell me a tsavorite garnet replacement stone for $1,000.00, no vender wanted to buy the necklace as tsavorite garnet. So one green stone is a dyed emerald and the rest are unknown and probably glass / paste. To get a definite answer on what the green stones are from a GIA certified gemologist was a $75 charge, so I passed. Many similar necklaces are selling for higher prices with paste stones. I noticed many sellers of Austro-Hungarian jewelry just didn't say anything at all about the stones.I did talk to several high end Antique dealers who were in agreement on the necklace being from the time period of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. Good condition, beautiful vintage / antique necklace. The clasp has also been replaced. the necklace is 15.5 inches long. I had the jeweler make a 6 inch bracelet / extension chain which I have included. The Pearls are likely real and not cultured or freshwater. This necklace is so old that cultured pearls may not have existed. Kokichi Mikimoto, from Japan, created the world's first cultured pearl in 1893. The center pearl has a slight inclusion / damage in the center, but I thought since it was probably a real pearl not cultured (or it would be perfect) it was better not to replace it. Austria-Hungary, often referred to as the Austro-Hungarian Empire or the Dual Monarchy, was a constitutional monarchy and great power in Central Europe between 1867 and 1918. The former Austro-Hungarian Empire was spread over a large part of Central Europe, it comprises present Austria and Hungary as well as the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Croatia and parts of present Poland, Romania, Italy, Ukraine, Moldova, Serbia and Montenegro.I will insure and pay for signature confirmation. I will gift wrap in a fancy box and pack safely and mail in a larger cardboard box. Please look at the pictures as they are part of the description.I accept returns if they are in the same condition.I combine shipping.
