Description: Antique 19thC English Barbotine Arts Crafts Japonisme Dogwood Ceramic Lamp Vase Click images to enlarge Description DESCRIPTION: This is a stunning antique English Arts & Crafts vase from the late 19th century. The vase is a wonderful example of the Barbotine style and design. This hand-thrown ceramic vase features a bottle-form with round short bottom and high neck. The body is hand-painted with a Japonisme-style frieze scene of Dogwood flowers set against a richly-colored ground. The lustrous glaze has acquired a wonderful time-earned crazed patina. The piece is signed on the bottom "SMK, PP" - this artist was quite talented as evidenced by the design and artistry. The vase was drilled for electricity at some point and could be made back into a lamp; or restored as a vase. The piece will make a great addition to any collection! CONDITION: The vase presents well and is in good antique condition, with minor wear and patina commensurate with age. The vase has crazing throughout, some skips on glaze and a few chips around the base. Vase was drilled for electricity at some point, with the drilled area having loss/chips on glaze.
