This was co-founded in the 1930's by Florida's first black millionaire named Abraham Lincoln Lewis, who was one of the original co founders back in 1901 of an Afro-American Life Insurance Company. This was located on the North side of Jacksonville, Florida beaches, where a huge beach resort with hotels and restaurants could be enjoyed by African Americans without humiliation. The summers were very busy with families and overtime, the American Beach became known as the Negro Ocean Playground
