Description: This one of a kind original antique concho belt, with 16 hand carved and stamped rectangular conchos. It is hand made, possibly from coin silver, but I really don't know. There is not an artist stamp, nor a sterling stamp. I bought this at a church rummage sale in the early 1970's (it was vintage then; now it is antique :) and I wore it for 20 years. I have been told that it is probably Navajo made, probably 1920's to 1940's. The many hammer strikes and tool marks that you see on the front are also visible as slightly raised bumps on the back. The conchos are attached to the leather belt with strips of leather on the back, very historic looking. I have seen this method of mounting on some antique belts that are stated to be from the 1920's, but I am not sure of that. The conchos and buckle can easily be removed from the old leather and put on a new leather belt or used on a cowboy hat, antique horse bridle, vintage antique clothing, etc. Size: The belt measures 32.5 inches long. Currently, it would fit a waist that is 31 or 31.5 inches. The buckle measures 2.6" x 1.25" and each of the 16 conchos measures 1.5" x .65" Condition: The buckle and conchos are in very good shape, with lots of fine wear and fine scratches. The leather belt is pretty old, and while still supple and flexible, it does have some cracking. Please see all photos. This is a sweet and unusual belt, just as it is. The slender, rectangular conchos are very distinctive. It will be packed well and shipped USPS Ground Advantage.
