Description: Superb antique hand-colored engraving of fish, from the publication "Oeuvres du Comte de Lacepede Comprenant L'Histoire Naturelle des Quadrupedes Ovipares, Des Serpents, Des Poissons et Des Cetaces Avec la Synonymie des Auteurs Modernes les Plus Celebres," published in Brussels in 1835. Comte de Lacepede (1756-1825) was a French naturalist, known both for multiple published volumes on natural species and for his contribution to Comte de Buffon's classic work "Histoire Naturelle." Engraving on laid paper, this being plate 76, illustrating three fish, identified at bottom. Engraving measures 7.5" by 4.5" and comes matted, under glass, and in a bronze metal frame, total dimensions 15" by 12". In excellent condition save for faint spotting at top of print.
