Antique 1819 Etching LUIGI ROSSINI 'Arco di Druso' Rome Piranesi Interest Framed

Description: DESCRIPTION - A large original antique early 19th century etching on wove inscribed "Arco di Druso, su del quale passava il Condotto Antoniano" below the image. Within a well defined plate mark. Engraved by Luigi Rossini (1790 - 1857) and dated 1819. Luigi Rossini was an Italian artist, best known for his etchings of ancient Roman architecture. This is one of 101 plates produced by Rossini for his great work ‘Le Antichitá Romane’ (1819-1829), which followed very much in the tradition established by his 18th century predecessor, Giovanni Battista Piranesi, in recording the increasingly rediscovered remnants of ancient Rome. Rossini’s plates are distinguished by the greater presence of contemporary figures going about their daily lives at all levels of society, The etching has been professionally conserved at some point in the past with the etching being backed with fine cloth. Please see photos. Beautifully presented in a antique lined beige mount and black and gilt ebonised wooden frame. Will be shipped unglazed to protect the print in transit. Photographed in natural daylight with no digital enhancements. Please excuse any reflections. APPROX SIZE of actual image including plate mark 18" x 14" and 30"x 24" including mount and frame. CONDITION - In very good condition with a few small spots in the sky area, a tiny tear bottom left corner and a slight fault top right corner. With the usual marks to frame from age and use - please see photos to satisfy yourself as to condition as they form part of the description.
