Rare antique 1800s mahogany sofa. Gondola form with serpentine back, high armrest with stylized fan motifs. These sofas were produced in New York and sold exclusively in New Orleans circa 1836-1839. Originally from the Meeks shop, located in the French Quarter on 23 Chartres Street. Just look at those curves! Solid mahogany carved wood, tufted back, and mohair velvet with 5 matching pillows. Wood is in good condition for age with fabric showing signs of age, wear, and use. Could be professionally cleaned or reupholstered if desired. Didn’t attempt to clean it since I planned to reupholster. Hate to part with her but I don’t have the time to invest in reupholstering. Originally acquired from a Hyde Park Chicago Estate.
