Antique 1781 Sterling Silver Tea Pot by Robert Hennell I - Swags/Ribbon

Description: On offer is this rare 18th century, sterling silver teapot by Robert Hennel I.Drum shaped. Profusely decorated body with repousse floral swags tied with ribbons, chased detailing around the banding. Wooden handle and finial.Hallmarked to the base: London, Sterling, RH for Robert Hennell I, 1781 (f). Hallmarked under the lid with the lion passant for sterling. The Hennell family are well known and highly regarded dynasty of 18th and 19th century silversmiths.* Height of 14.5cm, spans 25.5cm handle to spout. Holds approx 800ml. Weight of 365g.Presents well and is a charming piece from a quality and sought after maker. Please note however, there is a ding to the tip of the spout (see photos 14/15). There was also a tiny/slow drip leak coming from the base near the handle and also just under the spout. Both could be repaired if you desire this pot for use. Otherwise a wonderful, decorative 18th century piece of silver. Please consider photos and video. *David Hennell (1712-1785) established his own business in 1736. His son Robert Hennell I (1741-1811) joined the company in partnership in 1763 and he became sole owner of the business after his father’s retirement in 1773. He was joined by his son Samuel Hennell (1778-1837) and his nephew Robert Hennell II (1763-. Robert Hennell II's son, Robert III (1794-1868), joined Robert II circa 1817.
