Description: Presented is an attractive silver tray most likely made in either Germany or Italy between 1750 and 1850. In the center of the tray is an ornate crest depicting one running dog in a cartouche, one dog on either side on their hind feet, a crown above, and some flower and leaf work throughout. Around the edge of the tray has hand chased gadroons of swags of flowers and leaves. The rim of the tray is threaded with what appears to be ribbon draped in an x every few inches. The reverse has a lovely hand hammered finish. The tray is marked with an ornate P under a crown and what appears to be a JJ underneath a hexagonal punch of a crown. We unfortunately cannot identify either of these marks. The silver is probably .850-.900 purity, possibly a bit higher. The tray is in good condition considering its age. There are surface abrasions in the center of the tray clearly from use with a knife. These abrasions are easily noted in the photos. Other than that there is some very light wear commensurate with age and use. The tray is 13 1/2 inches by 10 3/4 inches. The tray weighs 612.7 grams. Powered by SixBit's eCommerce Solution
