Anthurium panamense is a beautiful sect. Cardiolonchium native to low and middle elevation wet forests from western Panamá east into Valle del Cauca and Chocó Departments of extreme western Colombia. Plants in cultivation in the U.S. and the EU mainly derive from plants collected in Chiriquí, Veraguas, and Coclé Provinces of Panamá. Other visually similar species (or open-pollinated hybrids) are offered under this name in the trade. The true sp. is very distinctive with markedly subvelvety-velvety leaves when mature and fine, striate-ribbed petioles that are diagnostic. Still rare in cultivation. This is a first generation seed grown plant grown from founders grown from wild collected seed in the mid-2000s by some friends near El Guabal, Veraguas Province, Panamá. This ecotype produces very beautiful leaves to just over 30"/75 cm in length. All plants offered are greenhouse grown on benches in the San Francisco Bay Area, California.
