Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Here we have a jazz saxophone album of staggering importance from master musician ANTHONY BRAXTON: Donna Lee, first released in 1972 by the America label, finally issued on CD in this gorgeous limited edition by Verve in 2004, now out of print. Braxton's increased profile in the mid-Seventies could not have come close to preparing an uninitiated listener for the onslaught that was his music in the early days. This '72 recording has been beautifully remastered for CD, adding considerable depth and clarity to these tapes. It's a sizzling quartet session featuring Michael Smith (piano), Peter Warren (bass), and Oliver Johnson (drums), with Braxton holding forth on alto and soprano saxophones, flute, and the all too seldom heard contrabass clarinet, a reed he truly made his own. Donna Lee proves conclusively that Anthony Braxton had his act together in a big way from the very beginning... a superb slice of New Thing jazz that still sounds fresh and vital today. This set (and all the others in this remarkable Verve America series) is superlatively packaged in a three-panel, die-cut digipak with a beautifully designed 16-page booklet. A labor of love, issued in a one-shot limited edition, not to be missed by connoisseurs of modern jazz. The CD is in flawless, near-mint shape. This is a promotional copy, with a light gash through the bar code. Track list Donna Lee H-204 3=HF G You Go to My Head, Part 1 You Go to My Head, Part 2 6O666 C -66M
