MINT CONDITION DUST JACKET Written by a Confederate Veteran Excellent Insights into the Western Campaigns A New Book: Solid, Clean, Sharp ORIGINALLY PUBLISHED BY THE GUILD BINDERY PRESS, JACKSON, TENNESSEE, IN 1878, THIS IS A 1998 REPRINT BY J.J. FOX PUBLISHERS, CAMDEN, SOUTH CAROLINA. Originally published in 1878 and written by a Confederate participant in the western campaigns of the Civil War, this book provides vintage details of battles and campaigns, excerpts from diaries, and stories of the Army of Tennessee and its units arranged chronologically by month in an excellent, descriptive, narrative. It is an excellent first-hand source of information with tables of engagements, casualties and other Confederate units engaged in the various activities. From the Dust Jacket Lt Colonel Drake, CSA, gives us additional details of the life, battles, and campaigns of the Army of Tennessee. A major contribution is the chronological summary of battles listing casualty figures and figures of confederate troops engaged. Annals of the Army of Tennessee is a worthy effort by one who was there to ensure the service of this hard marching, hard fighting army is not lost to memory. "Unlike the Army of Northern Virginia that fought in a 100 mile box, the Army of Tennessee marched over 3000 miles and fought numerous major engagements over the greater part of the Confederacy. Their engagements were fierce, their marches constant, and support sporadic. Albert Sidney Johnston who was to be "The Savior of the Confederacy" fell at Shiloh. Afterwards the army suffered the indignity of having friends of Jefferson Davis as commanders rather than generals of vision and capacity. The Regiments and troops of the Army of Tennessee were among the most tenacious fighters the South had to offer. Poor leadership and a determined enemy was a combination even courage and valor could not overcome. THIS BOOK IS IN MINT CONDITION This book is brand new, unread, pristine condition book.
