Constantin-Film’s promotional material for the German release of Andy Warhol’s Women, his “[most intelligent, biting, frivolous, devious and yet funniest film].” Along with textual material, the group includes several attractive large posters, most of which are printed on pink paper and reproduce reviews of Warhol’s films, as well as portraits of the actors. Also present are 12 stills from the film, each with an inset illustration reproducing the original theatrical poster art. All of the material features the film’s original title, Women, before it was re-titled Women In Revolt for its New York premiere in February, 1972. A deliberately exploitative film, Warhol and Paul Morrissey cast three trans superstars from The Factory—Candy Darling, Jackie Curtis, and Holly Woodlawn—in order to satirize “women’s libbers.” Warhol had been shot by Valerie Solanas only two years prior, and though the film is often understood as an attempt at revenge, it has remained a feminist cult classic due to its stars’ arguable subversion of its mockery.
