Description: This is an antique silk rug which is 6'8 X 4 ft.In the center panel, on a cream ground, flower sections and arabesques leaves are repeated throughout the field.The composition and manner of placing of the curved branches in the upper portion of the panel recall the composition of a prayer niche, however in a much freer and unstylized interpretation.The main border filled with flower heads and a meander of leaves is framed by two ancillary borders of small flower and leaf design.Silk Kashan rugs are renowned for the excellence of the silk pile and their unusual and artistic achievement. However this rug has an even wear, most of the silk is gone (some silk left on a border). Minor stains on the middle left side. Small loss on the lower left corner.
